Frequently Asked Questions

A fish tank needs to be cycled before adding fish. A colony of beneficial bacteria needs to develop over a period of 6 weeks so your tank can handle ammonia. Both the bacteria and the plants consume ammonia so make sure to maintain the right concentration (2ppm) of ammonia while cycling.

Fish can fight for many reasons. Most of the times it is to establish a territory. Other reasons are mating, overstocking or a wrong male to female ratio. To prevent fighting, figure out what is wrong and fix it. It is important to study the behavior of your fish and deduce what could be a reason to fight.

If an aquarium fish dies, the priority is to remove it from the tank for further inspection. If the fish had a disease, quickly remove it to prevent the spread to other fish or crustaceans. Inspect your aquarium by observing the other fish and measuring your water parameters to find the cause.

It’s best to not feed bread to your aquarium fish. Bread can easily bloat your fish as it soaks up water. If this happens when the bread is inside the fish’s stomach, this can have serious consequences. There are a lot of other foods out there that will make your fish happy and healthy instead of bread.
